Welcome to our
Hello, we are Year 2. We are taught by Mrs Croney. Miss Beason, Mrs Wilkinson and Mrs Stewart also help us in the classroom.
We enjoy learning through continuous provision in Year 2. We call this Explore and Learn. Our classroom is split in to lots of different areas with different activities in each. We learn independently during Explore and Learn and record our learning in our Explorers Journals. Our favourite areas are the construction, art and the hub.

We are learning reading skills by practising phonics every day. We follow Sounds-Write phonics to help us learn new sounds and become fluent readers. Once completing the decodable books, we move onto Accelerated Reader books which are in our school library. We read with Miss Young a minimum of three times per week in school.
In Year 2 we love maths! We are following the White Rose scheme of learning. This helps us to learn our maths in small steps. This means we build on our learning when we are ready to do so. We practise fluency every day. This means we practise our number bonds, times tables and counting forwards and backwards every day. We also use Times Tables Rockstars and we all have our own log in.
We are very lucky in Year 2 because Mrs Croney is a forest school leader. This means we get to have forest school sessions every week in the Summer term. In forest school we get to explore and learn in nature, and begin to learn how to teach us how to use tools safely and we will be able to have a fire to cook on.

Our homework is set each week and this includes 6 maths questions and 5 spellings. The maths questions link to our weekly maths fluency.
If you have any questions about Year 2 you can email Mrs Croney. Her email address is firstname.lastname@example.org
Our ultimate aim is to raise standards and outcomes for all of our children
How can I support my child at home?
Read, read read! We expect children in Year 2 to read a minimum of 3 times per week. Ask your child questions about what they are reading.
Practise numberbonds and times tables. Ask your child questions throughout the day.
Play ‘Hit the Button’. This is an excellent game online to help your child practise number facts.
Phonics Play is a fantastic website to support phonics learning. It does cost to access it, but you can get a free trial.
